What Does the Wastewater Treatment Facility Do?

Sheffield Utilities Wastewater treatment facility is designed to remove either part or all of the following pollutants:

  1. Suspended solids in order to meet water quality standards applicable for sewage effluent entering the receiving stream
  2. Floating debris, oil, grease, scum, or biosolids (sludge)
  3. Color and odor to below obvious levels
  4. Heavy metals or other chemical compounds which adversely affect the quality of the receiving water
  5. Pathogenic (disease causing) organisms
  6. Organic matter measured as biochemical oxygen demand (BOD)
  7. Settled Solids
  8. Ammonia nitrogen
